This article is short and sweet folks, the Northside ISD school board knows that Bexar County residents don’t want their taxes raised but they don’t give a hoot.

Northside ISD board members heard from citizens last night concerned about the impending tax increase proposed by the board. Concerns voiced ranged from bloated pay for school administrators to increased budget transparency and oversight to educational results.

Alas, after hearing these concerns the board elected to ignore the pleas and move forward with their plans to increase the M&O tax levied on Northside ISD taxpayers, something they will be able to do without voter approval.

Superintendent John Folks who collects in excess of $260,000 a year is blaming the Legislature for failing to adequately fund his school district despite his revenues over the most recent reporting period by the TEA have increased by more than $70 million.

What about results? Since 2002, the year Folks became Superintendent SAT scores have dropped from 995 to 988 and ACT scores have fallen from 21.3 to 20.9. For these efforts he is praised by a district spokesman, “the superintendent’s salary is well deserved.”

Folks said that he and the board would, “continue to be responsible stewards of their money.” Of course that begs the question how can you continue to be good at something when you weren’t good to begin with.
