Former Physician to the President Ronny Jackson has secured a major fundraising lead over his opponent, former lobbyist Josh Winegarner, in the Republican primary runoff to replace U.S. Rep. Mac Thornberry (R–Clarendon).

According to new finance reports filed last week, Jackson reported raising $492,346.81 since April in his race for U.S. Congress in Texas’ 13th Congressional District. The report is Jackson’s best of the campaign cycle so far, bringing his total funds raised to just over $904,000 over the course of his campaign, which was officially launched in December. Jackson also reported holding just over $207,000 in the bank at the end of the cycle.

Meanwhile, Winegarner reported raising $290,116.62 since April, with his campaign also trailing Jackson’s campaign in terms of cash on hand, with $170,142 in the bank.

In a statement to Texas Scorecard, Jackson said he is thankful for the financial support he has received from voters in the 13th Congressional District.

“I am honored and humbled to have such an outpouring of support for my campaign for Congress. I’m running a strong, positive grassroots campaign focused on issues and what I can do for the folks of this district, and my campaign is clearly resonating with the voters. I grew up in a blue-collar family, working as a roustabout in the oilfield, and I have never once forgotten where I came from. I am honored to have President Trump’s endorsement in this race, and I thank each and every one of you who has helped me get to where I am today. Words cannot express how much I appreciate your support.”

The fundraising totals look promising for Jackson, as the poll numbers in the Texas Panhandle and North Texas congressional race have also shifted in the retired Navy admiral’s favor. A new poll conducted by Fabrizio, Lee & Associates has Jackson leading Winegarner by 17 points, 46 percent to 29 percent. A recent poll from Club for Growth showed similar numbers, with Jackson holding an 8 point lead over his opponent, 49 percent to 41 percent.

Early voting in this contest is ongoing and runs until July 10. Election Day is July 14.
