A San Antonio high school teacher has resigned over alleged inappropriate behavior with students.
David Hector Terrazas, a culinary arts teacher at Legacy of Educational Excellence High School in North East Independent School District, chose to “step away from his position, effective immediately,” Principal Alejandro Escamilla wrote in an undated letter to parents.
Terrazas allegedly made inappropriate comments to a female student.
He was also under investigation for his “demeanor toward students when he was upset,” according to a report by KSAT.
Escamilla told parents of students in the Culinary Arts program that administrators were “working closely with the Career and Technical Education (CTE) department to provide appropriate classroom instruction and lab supervision.”
“Please be assured that our primary focus remains on student success and the stability of the learning environment,” he added.
Online records show Terrazas had taught in North East ISD since 2024.
Terrazas received a Texas teaching certificate in 2024 that is valid through 2027. He also received Career and Technology approvals for Culinary Arts and Law Enforcement/Criminal Justice in 2024. His certification is not under review by the Texas Education Agency.
Chef Terrazas previously headed the San Antonio Botanical Garden’s Culinary and Wellness Program, in which NEISD students had participated as part of a school health advisory committee.
Over the past few years, a growing number of Texas school employees have been accused of misconduct involving students and other minors, and thousands have been reported to the TEA for sexual misconduct.
A new law passed last year specifically added “inappropriate communication or boundary violations” involving students as educator misconduct that must be reported to the state.
