A West Texas teacher has been arrested following an incident where students found inappropriate images on his personal computer.

Lyndell Ray Lee, 68, was arrested last week for displaying harmful materials to minors—a Class A misdemeanor. He was a 6th grade social studies teacher at Crane Middle School.

The Crane Police Department was first notified of the situation after several students alerted the school principal that they had seen nude photos and videos on Lee’s personal computer during school hours.

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by Texas Scorecard, students said that Lee’s computer displayed nude images of women on his desk during his 8th period class. The affidavit also stated that he was “watching girls on his personal computer with both pictures and videos of naked women, 20ish photo[s] of women naked leaning against the wall.” According to the students, Lee would hit the pause button when they were near his desk.

Following multiple statements corroborating the incident, Lee was arrested and booked into the Crane County Jail. Crane Independent School District revealed later the same day that Lee had resigned from his position.

The district also released a statement saying they are working with law enforcement as the investigation continues.

“The safety and well-being of our students is our utmost priority. Upon learning of the incident, immediate actions were taken in accordance with district policies. The teacher has since resigned from their position, and we are fully cooperating with law enforcement as they conduct their investigation,” the statement read. “We want to assure our community that we are committed to fostering a safe and supportive learning environment. The district will be providing additional training and resources to staff to prevent such incidents in the future.”

“We encourage parents and guardians to discuss this matter with their children and to reach out to school officials with any concerns,” the statement concluded.

State records indicate that Lee does not hold a Texas Teacher Certificate.

Each year, dozens of Texas teachers and school employees are charged with sex crimes, many involving students and other children.
