U.S. Rep. Will Hurd’s super PAC is planning a series of attack ads against one of the two candidates in the July 14 Republican runoff in U.S. House District 13.

Last week, Future Leaders Fund announced its plans to launch an ad campaign attacking former physician to the president Ronny Jackson ahead of the primary runoff. The group said in a news release that it is planning to run ads on Fox News and in the Amarillo and Wichita Falls media markets, in addition to mail and digital ads. According to the release, the goal of the campaign is to discredit Jackson in order to allow his runoff opponent, former lobbyist Josh Winegarner, to build favorability in the district.

In a statement to Texas Scorecard, Jackson said voters should reject Hurd’s attempt to influence the July 14 election in District 13.

“This is the most conservative congressional district in the country, and the voters in Texas’ 13th Congressional District deserve a congressman that isn’t beholden to people like RINO, Never-Trump ‘Republican’ Will Hurd, who called President Trump a racist xenophobe,” Jackson said.

Jackson is the only candidate in the race backed with the endorsement of President Donald Trump, who tweeted out his support of Jackson shortly before the primary election.

Future Leaders Fund was launched by Hurd last year following his retirement announcement. The moderate Republican’s group is also campaigning for Tony Gonzales in District 23. Hurd is perhaps best known for his frequent criticism of President Trump and for his 2017 road trip with former U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke.

Early voting in this contest will begin July 6.
