Winnsboro ISD’s school board president was arrested in connection with an ongoing investigation into a sexual misconduct scandal and coverup.
Brandon Heath Green was arrested Wednesday and charged with failure to report child abuse and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence with intent to impair.
Green was booked into the Wood County Jail on August 5 and released the same day on bonds totaling $13,000.
He is the latest Winnsboro Independent School District official arrested as a result of a sexual misconduct scandal and coverup involving two high school coaches and two superintendents.
In June 2025, Winnsboro High School teacher and coach Nicholas Gabriel was arrested for having sex with a high school student.
Weeks later, another Winnsboro High School coach, Jared Lancaster, was charged with failing to report Gabriel’s sexual abuse.
An arrest affidavit for Lancaster showed that he and “Coach Gabe” exchanged frequent text messages about their use of illegal drugs and sexual relations between other school staff, and openly discussed helping each other conceal their illicit activities.
Two superintendents were arrested in January for helping cover up the crimes.
Winnsboro ISD’s then-Superintendent Aaron David Nation was charged with failure to report child abuse with intent to conceal, as well as tampering with or fabricating physical evidence with intent to impair.
The district’s previous superintendent, Brian David Wilcox, was charged with two counts of failure to report child abuse with intent to conceal.
Wilcox’s wife Ashley Ayres Wilcox, 52, was also arrested and charged with failure to report child abuse. She worked for the district as a speech pathologist through the summer of 2025.
In a statement issued Wednesday following Green’s arrest, the district wrote, “Winnsboro ISD is aware of the arrest of Board President Brandon Green earlier today. Because this is an ongoing legal matter, the district has no additional information to share.”
“Our focus remains on preparing for a successful start to the school year and ensuring our students, staff, and families have a safe, welcoming, and exceptional beginning to the new academic year. We remain committed to supporting our schools and serving our community.”
Dozens of school administrators have been referred to the Texas Education Agency for failing to report abuse allegations against school staff, but few have been charged with this crime.
The TEA’s Educator Misconduct Reporting Dashboard shows the agency is currently investigating 227 superintendents or principals for failure to report.
