Blue Origin Manufacturing LLC plans to invest approximately $555 million in a new manufacturing campus in Hutto and create more than 2,000 jobs over the next decade, Gov. Greg Abbott announced.
The company, owned by billionaire Jeff Bezos, plans to build Constellation Park, which will span approximately 1.3 million square feet and serve as a production hub for the company’s satellite and communications programs.
The campus will support Blue Origin’s TeraWave satellite communications network, which is designed to provide high-speed connectivity to enterprise, data center, and government customers.
It will also manufacture equipment for the company’s Quartz ground communications network, along with solar arrays, avionics, and other satellite hardware.
The state has extended an $18.17 million Texas Enterprise Fund grant to Blue Origin, along with a $10,000 Veteran Created Job Bonus.
The Texas Enterprise Fund is a performance-based economic development grant administered by the Governor’s Economic Development and Tourism Office. The fund may support business relocation or expansion projects when Texas competes with out-of-state locations for new jobs and capital investment.
“Blue Origin’s sizable expansion of their investment in Texas in support of their satellite communications network is testament to the state’s leadership in the advanced manufacturing and space industries,” Abbott said.
Abbott added that Texas offers technology companies the workforce and business environment needed to expand their operations.
Blue Origin CEO Dave Limp said the company plans to draw on Texas’ workforce.
“We’re proud to grow our footprint here in Texas, tap into the world-class talent this state has to offer, and help ensure America remains the leader in space innovation,” Limp said.
The expansion is expected to strengthen Williamson County’s aerospace and advanced manufacturing industries.
State Sen. Charles Schwertner (R–Georgetown) and State Rep. Caroline Harris Davila (R–Round Rock) welcomed the investment, citing its potential to create jobs and provide opportunities for local businesses and suppliers.
“With this investment by Blue Origin and recent expansions by other industry leaders, Hutto is becoming an anchor point on the Highway 79 tech corridor,” said Hutto Mayor Mike Snyder.
