Fernando Salvador Perez Morales, an illegal alien from Mexico, was sentenced to 74 months in federal prison for illegally reentering the U.S.
According to court records, Perez-Morales was convicted of driving while intoxicated seven times between 2009 and 2025. Two of those convictions involved hit-and-run accidents.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) apprehended Perez-Morales in August 2025, following his seventh DWI conviction. He had previously been removed from the United States in 2013 and 2020. Authorities plan to remove him again after he completes his federal prison sentence.
According to an affidavit filed by ICE Deportation Officer Ian Lynn, Perez-Morales was encountered at the Midlothian Police Department on August 25, 2025. Authorities confirmed he was a Mexican national who was unlawfully present in the United States, and an immigration detainer was lodged.
Perez-Morales pled guilty to the charge of illegal reentry.
In addition to the prison sentence, U.S. District Judge Brantley Starr ordered Perez-Morales to serve one year of supervised release after his imprisonment. The judge recommended that he be placed in a federal facility near Dallas-Fort Worth and participate in alcohol treatment programs.
“Individuals who repeatedly violate our immigration laws and endanger our communities by driving drunk—especially after multiple removals—are not welcome in the United States,” U.S. Attorney Ryan Raybould of the Northern District of Texas stated.
Raybould added that the sentence reflects federal authorities’ commitment to enforcing immigration law and protecting public safety.
The case comes amid a broader federal effort to prosecute repeat immigration offenders in North Texas.
In August, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas announced that prosecutors had charged 184 defendants with illegal reentry since June 1. The defendants had prior removal orders and criminal histories that included offenses such as aggravated assault, robbery, and hit-and-run causing death. ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations and Homeland Security Investigations conducted the investigations.
