The largest teachers union in the United States is revealing their true radical colors, coming out in support of unfettered abortion on demand, including abortions sought by students.

During their annual meeting in Houston, members of the National Education Association passed a resolution, Business Item 56, which calls for upholding Roe v. Wade:

The NEA will honor the leadership of women, non-binary, and trans people, and other survivors who have come forward to publicly name their rapists and attackers in the growing, international, #MeToo movement.

Furthermore, the NEA will include an assertion of our defense of a person’s right to control their own body, especially for women, youth, and sexually marginalized people. The NEA vigorously opposes all attacks on the right to choose and stands on the fundamental right to abortion under Roe v. Wade.

The Texas State Teachers Association, the NEA’s affiliate in Texas who played host to the union’s convention, is the oldest teachers union in Texas and boasts 3.2 million members. They did not respond to comment for this story as to whether or not they support the parent organization’s move.

Despite teachers unions’ left-wing views (and support of left-wing political candidates) the Republican-led state legislature has failed to act to stop the threat. Tax dollars are currently used by school districts to promote union membership and collect union dues; despite being a legislative priority of the Republican Party of Texas, a bill to end the practice was not even filed in the House or Senate.

In fact, the legislature made it easier for union dues collected by the government to be sent electronically to liberal labor unions. This is a benefit not afforded to unions in many other states.

The resolution passed by the NEA should cause many conservative Texans to wonder if the current state of education—and the education unions—truly reflects their values.
