TAMU Sought External Review of Student Affairs Department by Group Promoting DEI

The NASPA review was proposed for the current academic year.

Texas A&M administrators requested that a group promoting left-wing concepts submit a proposal to conduct a $20,000 “external review” of the university’s student affairs division.

The National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) has heavily promoted DEI concepts and attempted to repackaged them. Dr. Darby Roberts, Texas A&M’s director of student affairs, serves on the board of NASPA.

According to Dr. Roberts records, which were released Friday following a series of bureaucratic delays, Texas A&M sought and received a proposal from NASPA to conduct an “external review” of its student affairs department in late July.

The proposal states that NASPA prepared it “[i]n response to a request from the associate vice president & chief of staff.” Dr. Bill Kibler, vice president for student affairs at Texas A&M University, is listed as the TAMU representative responsible for executing this agreement.

Kibler reports directly to TAMU President Susan Ballabina. Ballabina reports to the Board of Regents.

The proposal states that Texas A&M will pay NASPA $20,000 for the review.

The first payment of $10,000 is due “Upon Execution of [this] Agreement” and a second tranche of $10,000 is due on February 1, 2027.

The proposal outlines a series of steps for NASPA to take as part of this review between September 2026 and the submission of a final report no later than May 2027. The proposed end date for the agreement is May 31, 2027.

The proposal called for the student affairs division’s operations, practices, and assessments to be reviewed by NASPA on an unspecified set of standards. It is unknown how the review’s findings will be incorporated into A&M’s operations.

While the records released do not include a final, signed agreement between the parties, they include a follow-up email from Tamara Ko, the executive assistant to NASPA’s president, to schedule activities related to the review between December 2026 and June 2027.

Ko’s email was dated August 13.

The records also contain discussions related to an “onsite visit,” although they do not include a final date for this visit.

Texas A&M did not respond to a request for comment on whether the proposed agreement is being executed.

Texas A&M University is a component of the Texas A&M System. The Texas A&M System is overseen by a Board of Regents that is appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Texas Senate. Robert Albritton of Fort Worth is the current board chair.
