An activist group has released another undercover video that highlights the continued presence of diversity, equity, and inclusion ideology in Texas’ taxpayer-subsidized universities.
The latest video from Accuracy in Media shows Gloria Martinez, director of Women’s and Gender Studies at Texas State University, discussing how DEI-related coursework is unaffected by recent prohibitions.
“The law doesn’t apply to academics,” Martinez explains.
“[T]he language in the law doesn’t say you can’t teach critical race theory … feminist theory … intersectional theories,” she continues.
Martinez was referring to a specific exemption for “academic course instruction” in Senate Bill 17, a 2023 state law that banned DEI in many aspects of day-to-day university operations.
Martinez also outlines a series of rhetorical sleights of hand faculty members use to disguise controversial content, such as rebranding “diversity statements” as a “teaching philosophy.”
A separate review of course content, to which the video briefly refers, remains ongoing at Texas State.
Most controversially, Martinez states that Texas State’s president, Kelly Damphousse, is supportive of their efforts.
“I believe that President Damphousse is supporting us,” she states. She then claims that Damphousse had previously worked in a gender studies position at the University of Oklahoma, although Damphousse’s background is in criminal justice and terrorism.
“Texas State University is aware of the video released Monday, May 4, 2026, involving one of our employees,” a Texas State representative told Texas Scorecard.
Texas State “remains committed to full compliance with SB17, as well as all applicable state and federal laws and executive orders,” the statement continued.
“The university’s provost and Dean of the College of Liberal Arts are reviewing the matter related to the video.”
This is the third video in AIM’s latest Texas Series. Previously released videos highlight continued use of DEI content at the University of North Texas and the University of Texas at Arlington social work programs.
Texas State University is a component of the Texas State University system. The Texas State University System is overseen by a Board of Regents that is appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Texas Senate. Stephen Lee of Bastrop is the current board chair.
