A cancer research conference that has previously focused almost exclusively on Latinos will return in 2026 under a slightly different name.

UT Health San Antonio will host this conference, entitled “Advancing Cancer Research for Latinos and All Populations,” from February 18-20, 2026.

The conference agenda lists a variety of panel discussions related to Latinos. Examples include “Juntos en la Lucha: Building a Future of Survivorship For Latinos,” “Our Air, Our Water, Our Health: The Environmental Impact on Latino Cancer Risk,” and “Think Tank: Latino Cancer Researchers Against Cancer.” In fact, nearly every discussion on the agenda features Latino in its title.

The conference agenda does not contain any examples of content aimed at “all populations.”

Previous iterations of this conference were known as “Advancing the Science of Cancer in Latinos,” according to both internal materials and reports from activist groups. These iterations were held in 2024 and 2022.

Former First Lady Jill Biden spoke at the 2022 conference.

The 2026 conference is sponsored primarily by pharmaceutical companies, including Bristol Myers Squibb, Gilead, Genentech, and Revolution Medicines at the platinum level.

UT Health San Antonio merged with the University of Texas at San Antonio in September.

The University of Texas at San Antonio did not reply to a request for comment.

The University of Texas at San Antonio is a component institution of the University of Texas System. The UT System is overseen by a board of regents that is appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Texas Senate. Kevin Eltife is the current board chairman.
