Greetings from Corsicana, where tonight I learned just how big a thug State Rep. Byron Cook really is. And how scared he is of the truth.

Despite flooding rains and strong winds, people rallied outside Cook’s campaign kick off. Cook is the “Republican” who killed a ban on sanctuary cities, thwarted pro-life reforms, and protected labor unions.

According to the Corsicana Police Department, there were 70-75 people peacefully rallying against Byron Cook’s record. We had little kids and grandmothers, a retired cop and a homemaker. These were Texans, through and through!

And for that, the Corsicana chief of police threatened me and Texas Right to Life’s president, Jim Graham, with jail

Apparently his bosses, and Byron Cook, didn’t want all these people talking about Cook’s legislative disservice.

In the end, the police issued citations to me and Graham.

An obscure city ordinance says that if more than 25 people are gathered outside without a permit, it’s an illegal parade.

Citation issued by Corsicana Police Department for... an illegal parade!

So, yes, I got a Class C Misdemeanor citation for an illegal parade… Too bad we didn’t bring any trombones! (One fellow did bring a Gadsen flag.)

Throughout the evening, the police chief was on the phone asking what he was supposed to do. No doubt he was on the line getting orders from Bad Byron Cook’s cronies.

Apparently the City of Corsicana doesn’t put much stock in that whole First Amendment prohibition against government “abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble”.

We know Byron Cook doesn’t. He’s the guy who pushed legislation attacking churches while also prohibiting citizens from filming lawmakers at the Capitol!

They can write me a ticket any day of the week. I won’t back down from defending the First Amendment; they are going to have a fight on their hands. We’ve been fighting the speech regulators in Austin too long to now be bullied by Bad Byron Cook’s cronies in Corsicana!

Will you join us in the fight to protect the First Amendment rights of all Texans? We would appreciate your donation immediately so we can fight back against “Lord Byron’s” speech-squelchers.
