Two illegal aliens escaped custody on Monday after one slipped his restraints and allegedly choked a female Border Patrol agent. The two men were later recaptured near Conroe.

ICE announced that the men—29-year-old Juan Carmen Padron Mendez and 23-year-old Juan Carlos Padron Barron—escaped while being transferred from Spring to the Montgomery Processing Center.

According to ICE, one of the men managed to slip out of his restraints and choke a female Border Patrol agent who was helping with the transfer.

Gabriel Martinez, the acting field office director for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations, blasted the attack and pointed to the political environment surrounding law enforcement.

“It is sickening that another law enforcement officer has been needlessly harmed as a direct result of the continued demonization of legitimate law enforcement activities by political leaders and certain members of the media,” he said.

He went further, adding, “Every time they label the brave men and women who work for ICE, CBP, or Border Patrol as Nazis or bounty hunters, they might as well paint a bright target on their backs because attacks like this are inevitable and will continue to occur.”

The two men had been arrested during a recent multi-agency operation targeting violent illegal aliens and repeat immigration offenders in and around Spring, just north of Houston.

ICE records show Padron Barron has crossed the border illegally at least three times, having been deported in December 2022 and again in January 2023. Padron Mendez, ICE noted, had not previously been encountered by immigration authorities.

A large manhunt began as soon as law enforcement learned of the escape.

In a Facebook post Monday afternoon, the Conroe Police Department confirmed that a multi-agency search was immediately launched. “Thanks to the joint efforts of all agencies involved, the suspects were promptly apprehended outside the city limits of Conroe,” the department wrote.

Just last month, ICE announced that in the first six months of the Trump administration the agency had arrested 356 illegal alien gang members. Collectively, those individuals entered the country illegally 1,434 times and carried 1,685 criminal convictions. Their crimes included murder, theft, arson, and child predation. One gang member alone had entered the U.S. illegally 40 times.
