Our friends at TexasWatchdog.com note that two years ago Houston Independent School District voters approved a $90 million bond package to improve security. It shouldn’t be a surprise in public education spending anymore, but apparently the people aren’t getting what they voted for. And in this case, that’s dangerous.

Just for perspective, in 2008 there were 198,769 students enrolled in Houston ISD. TV reporter Wayne Dolcefino at Houston’s KTRK Channel 13 has found security systems throughout the schools have been left unrepaired for months — including “cameras, camera playback systems and intercoms.”

The TV station says the problems “may have actually hindered the search for some suspects.”

Just goes to show why voters need to be a little more suspicious of packages sold “for the kids.” Of course, maybe they just need more money… $90 billion anyone?
