A North Texas pastor has stepped down from his church and school leadership roles after parents discovered his son—a convicted sex offender—had been working on campus.

Parents at Heritage Christian Academy in Haslet recently discovered that Caleb Crawford, son of Heritage Baptist Church Pastor Eric Crawford, was listed on the Texas sex offender registry.

According to Tarrant County records, 31-year-old Caleb Crawford was arrested by the Fort Worth Police and booked into the county jail on Friday. He is charged with violating a sex offender’s duty to register for life/annually.

Eric Crawford reported that his son was working as an independent contractor performing maintenance and leading music in the church, but had “no role of responsibility or authority over minors entrusted to our care.”

State records show Caleb Crawford was convicted in a 2016 case of indecency with a child by sexual contact involving a 12-year-old girl. He is required to register as a sex offender for life.

Parents said they were never told a registered sex offender was allowed to work on campus, even as a contractor.

There have been no reports of sexual misconduct at the school or any incidents involving Caleb Crawford.

On Thursday, Pastor Crawford stepped down from his role pending an internal review.
