Frenship Independent School District fired a special education aide just before she was jailed for lifting the shirt of an elementary school girl, exposing the student’s chest in a classroom.

T’nae Lauren Harrell, 36, was arrested and charged with voyeurism, a state jail felony.

Harrell was an aide at Legacy Elementary in Frenship ISD, located in West Texas.

She was arrested on May 7 and booked into the Lubbock County Jail on May 8, but has since been released on a $50,000 bond.

An arrest affidavit obtained by EverythingLubbock.com revealed that Harrell made lewd comments about a female student’s chest size and pulled up the girl’s shirt, exposing her.

The affidavit stated that four staff members witnessed the incident, which was captured on video by classroom surveillance cameras, and that Harrell admitted to it.

According to a statement from Frenship ISD, school administrators received reports on May 4 about the incident, which occurred on April 29, 2026.

“Immediately, Harrell was removed from the classroom and put on leave while our Frenship Police investigated the reports,” the statement reads. “We contacted the family of the student involved, and once we had more information, we notified all parents who have students in that classroom of the active investigation.”

Frenship ISD stated Harrell was terminated on May 7, prior to her arrest, and is no longer with the district.

While we legally cannot discuss the details of the criminal investigation, we felt it was important to let our parents, staff, and community know about the investigation and arrest.

Reported behavior such as this is unacceptable and deeply concerning and goes against everything Frenship ISD stands for. Creating a safe learning environment for all students is our top priority, and we take these investigations very seriously. We have made additional resources available for our students, parents, and staff and will continue to support our families through this difficult time.

Online records show Harrell had worked for Frenship ISD since the 2022-23 school year.

Harrell has held a Texas teaching certificate as an educational aide since 2022.

State teacher discipline data published by the Open Records Project shows that 25 Frenship ISD educators were reported to the Texas Education Agency for misconduct from September 2021 through October 2025.

In just the past few years, hundreds of Texas teachers have been accused of sex crimes involving students and other children. Thousands of educators have been reported to the TEA for sexual misconduct.
