It’s hard to believe I’m even having to write this: but your only shot at getting even a little bit of honest property tax relief is on life support, and hours away from death. Please call your legislator today and ask them to demand that House Bill 2785 come up for a vote right now!
Â
Due to the rules of the Legislature, H.B. 2785 must be heard essentially now, or it is dead.
Â
Here we are in a legislature controlled by Republicans, with billions and billions of surplus revenues… And yet legislation to give a $2.5 billion immediate property tax cut is languishing in the back of the line. In fact, this important tax-cut legislation has been sitting at the back of the line since Friday!Â
Â
Let me be clear: if the Texas House does not pass House Bill 2785 by Rep. Ken Paxton (R-McKinney) in the next 24 hours, your chances at seeing real tax relief this year are all but gone.
Â
With a $14 billion surplus, Texas’ taxpayers deserve this property tax relief. Thanks to the unreformed property appraisal system, Texans are seeing double-digit increases in their property tax valuations — which means their tax levies are rising faster than the modest, incremental tax cuts the legislature did last year.
Â
Put simply: Texas’ taxpayers aren’t seeing any substantive tax relief.
Â
So if legislators want to make good on their promises to reduce tax burdens and relieve us of out-of-control property taxes, then they should pass House Bill 2785.
Â
Please call your representative today and tell them you support House Bill 2785 for immediate property tax relief!
