Never has a newspaper gotten the story so right. The section heading said it all, “Taxing As A First Option.†That’s precisely the attitude of so many in government, and in this case the government apologists are admitting it.
A Dallas Morning News article about school districts raising taxes included the little gem. The section was headed as noted, and then the associate executive director of the Texas Association of School Boards (a group that actively opposes taxpayer protections) is reported as saying that most superintendents and school boards would rather raise taxes than cut spending.
Why make tough decisions about effectively using taxpayer resources, when you can go out and wage a campaign that equates higher taxes with loving children?
Why control spending growth when you can hold elections on dates and at locations guaranteed to only draw out the school district employees and few or no taxpayers?
