Temple pastor and businessman Brandon Hall is running to represent Texas House District 55 in Bell County.
“I will give our district a reliable, principled conservative choice, someone who will work to end abortion, protect religious liberty, and enforce our laws,” Hall said in a press release, adding that voters in the district have asked him to “bring trust, integrity, and honesty back to the Texas House.”
Hall is expecting to challenge incumbent State Rep. Hugh Shine (R-Temple) in the March 2018 Republican primary.
In 2017, Shine earned a remarkably low score of 37 on Empower Texans’ Fiscal Responsibility Index, ranking barely above the highest-scoring Democrat.
With Hall in the race, Shine will have to defend his weak record while on the campaign trail, as will other Republican lawmakers who’ve failed to represent their constituents and drawn primary challengers.
