Missi Walden has won the GOP nomination for Ector County Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2, after garnering approximately 75 percent of the vote.
Total voter turnout in Ector County’s runoff election was 1,584, with 1,181 votes for Walden and 403 for her opponent.
Walden, a court coordinator for the county, ran against local conservative activist and jeweler, Matthew Stringer. The two were forced into a runoff after a seven-way primary race left no candidates with a majority win. Walden and Stringer were the frontrunners after receiving 32 and 23 percent of the vote, respectively.
The justice of the peace position was vacated by Christopher Clark after he was appointed to serve as County Court at Law No. 2 Judge. With no Democrat nominee running in the race, Walden has secured her seat and will be appointed by commissioners this year.
