Tarrant County taxpayers can feel some pride about the scores earned by some delegates they sent to Austin in the 2019 Fiscal Responsibility Index, but they may have some serious concerns about others.

The most anti-taxpayer representatives from Tarrant County were Democrat State Reps. Chris Turner (Grand Prairie) of House District 101 and State Rep. Nicole Collier (Fort Worth) of House District 95. Both earned an F this session, with the disastrous grade of a 22. Both have career ratings of F as well.

The biggest and most disappointing change in performance in Tarrant County is by freshman State Sen. Beverly Powell (D–Burleson), who earned an abysmal 36 in 2019, a taxpayer-burning F. Powell defeated former State Sen. Konni Burton (R–Colleyville) in 2018, who was a career A+ on the Index, earning a solid 100 and the title of Taxpayer Champion in 2017.

Unsurprising to many, the strongest Taxpayer Champion of this session, and the representative with the highest score of every elected member of either the Texas House or Senate, is State Rep. Jonathan Stickland (R–Bedford) of House District 92, with a score of 98—a strong A+. Stickland’s career-long rating is an A+ as well, showing his consistency as a fighter for the taxpayers.

Stickland is followed by another Taxpayer Champion of this session, State Rep. Tony Tinderholt (R–Arlington) of House District 94, who earned a 93, an A, a score that is slightly down from the A+ he earned in 2017. He has a career rating of A+.
