On October 20, photos of Gov. Abbott and others not wearing masks or social distancing at Globe Life Park in Arlington were shared on social media. Citizens were outraged, as Abbott’s statewide mask mandate is still in effect.
Some in the photo with Abbott are identified as Texas Rangers owner Neil Leibman, Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred, Rangers Managing Partner Ray Davis, and Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams.
They were given hats from PRCA CEO George Taylor as thanks for helping enable the National Finals Rodeo coming to the Lone Star State and Globe Life Park. “The PRCA is the largest & oldest professional rodeo association and the recognized leader in ProRodeo,” their Facebook page reads.
Texans were less than pleased to see these photos, and some commented that it was hypocritical of Abbott to not “live by the same rules he imposes on the plebeians.”
“Where’s your mask, King Abbott?” asked citizen Joy Johnson.
“If you can gather here, we can gather anywhere,” wrote Bethany Young.
“Because masks only apply to the constituents, apparently,” wrote citizen Ali Dean.
“Your Mask Mandate Rules Don’t Apply to You & Your Friends?” asked another citizen.
In fact, Republican election workers in Dallas County were recently fired for not wearing masks, despite exemptions provided in Abbott’s mandate. The Texas Supreme Court refused to step in to protect these Texans liberties.
Texas Senate District 30 candidate Shelley Luther also chimed in with her disapproval.
