If the numbers from one border town are any indication, illegal immigration may be contributing to the spread of coronavirus.

According to a report from Fox News:

Felipe Romero, a spokesperson for Brownsville, said Wednesday that the 108 positives represent 6.3% of the number of total migrants who have been rapid-tested at the city’s main bus station, where they are being released by the Border Patrol. Rapid testing of the individuals began there on Jan. 25.

Texas’ border towns have been highlighted as areas of higher coronavirus cases, with cities like Laredo often considered COVID-19 “hot spots.”

In one of his first actions after being inaugurated, President Joe Biden announced a 100-day pause on deportations. However, a federal judge recently struck down the order after a legal challenge led by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

Since Biden stepped into office, there has been a recent surge in illegal aliens entering the United States, particularly among minors. In February, the number of children illegally entering the United States likely soared by over 50 percent compared to the previous month.

In a letter to the president, Republican Congressmen, led by Rep. Chip Roy, rebuked Biden’s border policies and accused him of encouraging a dangerous rise in illegal immigration:

Mr. President, the fundamental responsibility of the federal government is to protect America, not to ignore the law and to actively encourage, incentivize, and facilitate illegal migration in ways that empower cartels and endanger both American citizens and migrants wrongly being encouraged to succumb to the perilous journey.
