Following the Texas House’s vote to impeach Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, former President Donald Trump is calling out Gov. Greg Abbott for being “missing in action” over the impeachment.

On Saturday, the House voted 121-23 to impeach Paxton over disputed charges of misapplication of public resources, bribery, obstruction of justice, abuse of public trust, and disregard of official duties.

The move came after the House Committee of General Investigating initiated an examination of Paxton after a group of five investigators were secretly appointed with their main focus being on a settlement reached with four former employees of the Office of the Attorney General who say they were fired unfairly.

Trump took to Truth Social after the impeachment—a social media platform created by President Trump after he was banned from Twitter – asking where Abbott was during the impeachment.

Before the House voted for impeachment, Trump criticized Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan (R–Beaumont) calling him a “Rino Speaker” who “failed the test on voter integrity.”

Following the vote, Paxton denounced the impeachment saying it isn’t just about him, but about the voters who re-elected him.

“What we have witnessed today is not just about me. It is about the corrupt establishment’s eagerness to overpower the millions of Texas voters who already made their voices heard when they overwhelmingly re-elected me,” Paxton said. “I am beyond grateful to have the support of millions of Texans who recognize that what we just witnessed is illegal, unethical, and profoundly unjust. I look forward to a quick resolution in the Texas Senate, where I have full confidence the process will be fair and just.”

Paxton was suspended from his duties and the matter was sent to the Senate where two-thirds of the senators would have to convict him in order for him to be removed from office.
