Three of four Republican state representatives in Collin County defeated challengers in Tuesday’s primary election.
The challengers lost despite endorsements from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who also lives in Collin County. Paxton sought to knock out incumbents who voted for his impeachment, including the entire Collin County delegation.
The incumbents were all endorsed by Gov. Greg Abbott, who threw his support behind those House members who supported his school choice plan.
In House District 66, five-term State Rep. Matt Shaheen of Plano beat businessman Wayne Richard.
In House District 67, six-term State Rep. Jeff Leach of Allen defeated former Allen City Councilman Daren Meis. Leach was one of the House impeachment managers against Paxton.
In House District 89, third-term State Rep. Candy Noble of Lucas beat former Collin County GOP chairman Abraham George.
The three-way race for House District 61 is headed for a runoff between disgraced freshman State Rep. Frederick Frazier of McKinney and first-place finisher Keresa Richardson. Former McKinney City Councilman Chuck Branch finished third.
Primary runoff elections will be held on May 28.
Democrats have nominated candidates for all four of the House seats.
Another freshman, Dallas Democrat State Rep. Mihaela Plesa, currently represents House District 70. Republican Steve Kinard defeated Joe Collins in the primary and will challenge Plesa in November.
General Election Day is November 7.
