An event designed to feature alleged “evangelical” support for Democrat presidential candidate Kamala Harris will feature a Texas twist.
Democrat State Rep. James Talarico, originally elected in Round Rock but now representing an Austin-based district, will speak on a Zoom call for “Evangelicals for Harris” this Wednesday.
The “Evangelicals for Harris” website features vague, boilerplate language about the economy and attempts to rebrand “climate change” as “Creation care.” Discussion of life, marriage, and sexuality is conspicuously absent.
Talarico has gained notoriety in recent years for laundering left-wing positions through quasi-Christian language. According to press reports, Talarico is a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian in North Austin, an apostate congregation whose “pastor” has denied the resurrection of Christ. In addition, St. Andrews’ website brags about its status as a “reproductive justice congregation,” a common euphemism for abortion.
Indeed, Talarico once argued there were six genders in a committee hearing. He has also called displays of the Ten Commandments “un-Christian.” In 2021, Talarcio even gave the following “invocation” in the Texas House.
Yesterday in the #txlege “Republican” leadership allowed a progressive liberal to open the day with this “prayer.”
I am disgusted such blasphemy was spoken in the chamber. Lord forgive us for turning our state over to this trash. Where are the bold followers of Jesus Christ? pic.twitter.com/YYCHyzprcZ— Jonathan Stickland (@RepStickland) March 25, 2021
Despite (or, perhaps, because of) these positions, Talarcio remains a close ally of House Speaker Dade Phelan, who has given him plum appointments on the calendars and public education committees.
