Vermont socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders is returning to Texas this week for a series of rallies alongside prominent Democrats as early voting begins in the November midterm elections.
Sanders is bringing his “Fighting Oligarchy” tour to Amarillo and El Paso on Monday, followed by a stop in Houston on Tuesday.
U.S. Rep. Greg Casar of Austin and former U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke are scheduled to join Sanders at the El Paso and Houston rallies.
The visit comes just months after Sanders delivered the keynote address at the Texas Democratic Convention this summer in Corpus Christi.
Sanders is a self-described democratic socialist who unsuccessfully sought the Democratic presidential nomination in 2016 and 2020.
Ahead of his return to Texas, Sanders also endorsed Democrat State Rep. Vikki Goodwin in her campaign to unseat Republican Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick.
“I am proud to endorse Vikki Goodwin for Lieutenant Governor because Texas needs leaders who are willing to stand up for working people and take on a broken health care system,” Sanders said in an endorsement shared by Goodwin on Sunday.
Sanders specifically praised Goodwin’s proposed Texas Cares Plan, which she says would expand healthcare coverage to millions of uninsured Texans.
Goodwin publicly thanked Sanders for supporting both her campaign and her healthcare proposal.
Thank you @BernieSanders for your support of my campaign, and my healthcare plan!
