With early voting set to begin in less than a week, U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson is making another campaign swing through South Texas as Republicans fight to maintain their narrow majority in Congress.
Johnson will appear at rallies in Corpus Christi and McAllen on Tuesday alongside U.S. Rep. Monica De La Cruz, as well as congressional candidates Tano Tijerina, Eric Flores, and Carlos De La Cruz.
The Corpus Christi rally is scheduled for 2:30 p.m., followed by an event in McAllen at 5 p.m. Carlos De La Cruz is scheduled to appear only at the Corpus Christi event.
The visit comes as Republicans seek to capitalize on recent political gains in South Texas, where President Donald Trump won 12 of the region’s 14 border counties in 2024.
Several of the candidates are competing in districts redrawn by the Texas Legislature last year to favor Republicans.
Johnson previously traveled through South Texas in August, campaigning alongside Republican congressional candidates as the party sought to build momentum ahead of the midterms.
During a stop in Laredo, Johnson emphasized the importance of maintaining the Republican majority in Congress, arguing that Trump’s agenda would effectively be on the ballot in November.
“Because even though his name isn’t in the midterm, his legacy is, the America First priorities and principles are, his administration is,” Johnson told supporters.
Johnson won’t be the only high-profile Republican campaigning in Texas on Tuesday.
Vice President JD Vance is also scheduled to visit Tyler for a campaign event in support of Republican congressional candidates.
Tuesday’s events are part of a broader campaign effort that will take Johnson to more than 40 congressional districts across more than 20 states in the final month before Election Day.
