Biography

Raised in North Texas, Don Huffines graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1981 with a B.B.A. in Finance. He started working for Henry S. Miller Company, the largest commercial brokerage company in Texas, in 1982, before launching his own company—Huffines Communities—in 1985.

Long involved in local and state politics, Huffines was elected to the Texas Senate in 2016. As a member of the Senate, he took no pay, no health insurance, and no per diem or other reimbursement. He won outright the four-way GOP nominating contest for comptroller in March 2026. On August 1, he was appointed by Gov. Greg Abbott to complete the unexpired term of former Comptroller Glenn Hegar, in anticipation of his November victory.

He is married to Mary Catherine. They have five children and a dozen grandchildren.
