Opponents of Texas’ Voter ID law like to say election fraud isn’t a problem. Perhaps that’s because commiting in-person voter fraud is so easy, that it isn’t a problem for them.

James O’Keefe’s Project Veritas released today video of one of their operatives successfully gaining access to — but not using — a ballott for Eric Holder, the head of Barack Obama’s Justice Department. The young man, who is white (Holder is middle-aged and African-American) asks if he needs an ID to vote and is told that he does not.

The Obama Administration wants to preserve the ability of unscrupulous politicians to steal elections.

Of course, Mr. Holder and President Obama have managed to short-circuit Texas’ Voter ID law for this election season — a move Attorney General Greg Abbott is fighting in court.

The mere opportunity to commit such fraud undermines the integrity of our representative democracy, and thereby disenfranchises legal voters.

Yet to hear Voter ID opponents, there is no fraud going on — just ask them. That’s easy to say, when one isn’t actually looking. So what a surprise when Mr. O’Keefe goes looking… and finds it. While his guerilla journalism might be off-putting to some, O’Keefe deserves credit for so graphically exposing the truth about voter fraud.

Opponents will continue to double-down on their opposition for every possible reason except the real one: they want to keep available a tool for electoral manipulation.

Their most disingenuous argument involves the faux burden having a photo ID places on the poor. Somehow this isn’t a problem when requiring that same ID be used to access to some government buildings, or get on an airplane. You need a photo ID to buy alcohol and tobacco, or even some over-the-counter medicines. The federal government requires you to have a government-issued ID before purchasing a gun.

Yet the Obama Administration doesn’t want Texas to require the use of a photo ID when voting? And the Texas law being challenged by Obama and Holder even provided for making free IDs available!

Texans — across racial, ethnic and partisan lines — strongly, even overwhelmingly, support voter ID laws. Sadly, the Obama Administration — and their dwinding number of supporters in Texas — would supplant the governing will of Texans with a distorted sense of political entitlement.

That is fraud of a whole different sort, and one which can — and must — be overcome at the ballot box.
