After a doctor exposed Texas Children’s Hospital for performing “transgender” medical interventions on minors, he found himself at the center of a politically motivated prosecution. Now, a subcommittee of the powerful U.S. House Committee on the Judiciary wants to hear from the former lead prosecutor.

Tina Ansari, who was the lead prosecutor in the case against Dr. Eithan Haim, has been invited to testify before the U.S. House Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on the Constitution and Limited Government. She set to testify on Wednesday, April 9, in a hearing that aims to examine the Department of Justice’s prosecution of Haim following his allegations.

In May 2023, Haim revealed that Texas Children’s Hospital had continued to administer cross-sex hormones and puberty blockers to minors, despite the hospital’s previous announcement in March 2022 that such treatments had been paused.

This revelation came after Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton released an opinion that those procedures constituted child abuse. Gov. Greg Abbott had also issued a directive to investigate these procedures as child abuse.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas pursued criminal action against Haim for alleged violations of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. The four-count indictment alleged that he obtained personal information, including patient names, treatment codes, and the names of attending physicians, using the institution’s electronic system without authorization.

Ansari was later removed from the case due to a significant conflict of interest.

The committee’s letter states that Ansari failed to report substantial financial and political ties her close family members had to the hospital, including attending and co-sponsoring fundraising events. The subcommittee is seeking to:

  1. Understand the nature of the prosecution against Dr. Haim.
  2. Inform potential legislative reforms.
  3. Examine concerns about the DOJ’s alleged weaponization against whistleblowers.
  4. Address issues related to civil liberties, protection of minors, conflicts of interest, and the prosecution of individuals with disfavored viewpoints.

Committee Chairman Jim Jordan and Subcommittee Chairman Chip Roy (R–Austin) emphasized the importance of Ansari’s testimony in advancing the committee’s oversight and informing legislative reforms.

The case against Haim was dismissed after President Donald Trump took office.
