The U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced Monday morning that a gunman opened fire at Border Patrol agents in McAllen.

According to DHS, the gunman was waiting outside the entrance of the U.S. Border Patrol office armed with tactical gear and a rifle. When he opened fire, local law enforcement was able to quickly return fire, killing the shooter.

“Two officers and a Border Patrol employee were injured, including one shot in the knee. All three have gone to the hospital,” wrote DHS on X.

FBI San Antonio reports that the shooter has been identified as Ryan Louis Mosqueda and has informed the public that no other information regarding the situation will be shared at this time.

According to Fox News, law enforcement believes the attack purposely targeted Border Patrol officers.

The DHS and FBI San Antonio both announced that there is an ongoing investigation into the situation.

Late last week, a police officer was shot near an ICE detention facility in Prairieland.

According to DHS, violence against ICE agents and other federal law enforcement officers conducting immigration enforcement is up nearly 700 percent since this time last year.
