While the humanitarian crisis at the southern border worsens, Vice President Kamala Harris will attend a Democrat fundraising event in Texas this weekend.

Missing on the agenda are any plans to visit the Texans directly facing the consequences of the Biden administration’s open border policies.

Harris will deliver the keynote address for the Texas Democratic Party’s annual Johnson-Jordan Reception in Austin on Saturday, with suggested donations ranging from $250 to $10,000. Texas Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa praised Harris’ attendance at the event as further proof of her dedication to the party’s causes.

“Her trip shows that the nation’s eyes truly are upon Texas as we head into the midterm elections,” said Hinojosa. “We’re grateful for all the work President Biden and Vice President Harris have done in Washington to deliver for hard-working Texans – and we’re equally thankful that they’re so invested in winning state races in Texas so we can reverse the dangerous course Greg Abbott and his extremist Republican cronies have plunged our state down.”

However, under the Biden administration, the border crisis continues to worsen. Alliance for a Safe Texas reported that Biden and Harris’ failure to act at the southern border is straining county resources and putting lives in danger, with some counties resorting to burying unidentified illegal aliens on Texas soil.

Last month, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) announced 203,598 encounters along the border for August 2022, bringing this federal fiscal year’s total to a record-breaking 2,150,244. CBP also highlighted how “more individuals encountered at the border will be removed or expelled this year than any previous year.”

In March 2021, President Joe Biden appointed Harris as his administration’s “border czar” and tasked her with finding ways to alleviate the border crisis and work with El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras to fix problems causing illegal aliens to seek entry into the United States. Although the situation at the Texas border is showing no improvement, Harris’ agenda for her fundraising trip shows no planned visits to the affected area.

Instead, Harris’ weekend schedule includes fundraising for Democrats and talking to pro-abortion activists in the Austin area. In an interview with the New York Post, U.S. Rep. Tony Gonzales (TX-23) criticized Harris for failing to visit the southern border and hear from citizens dealing with the effects of Biden’s open border policies.

In a few days Vice President Harris is going to visit Texas, but she’s going to Austin to fundraise. I don’t understand why the Vice President just won’t take an hour plane ride to the border and just listen, talk to people, just show up and say, “Hey, we are here to help.” Just say, “The administration hasn’t abandoned you” … something!

U.S. Rep. August Pfluger (TX-11) also voiced concerns to the New York Post, questioning Harris’ decision to fundraise for the Democrats in Texas without seeing the southern border.

“The only place ‘Border Czar’ VP Kamala Harris should be visiting in Texas is the disaster-area formerly known as the US-Mexico border,” said Pfluger. “It is unbelievable that this administration has the gall to face the people of Texas who they have abandoned and ask for money.”
