A total of 208 Chinese nationals were apprehended by United States Border Patrol agents in San Diego, California on Monday, according to Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin.

“In the last 3 days alone, there have been 452 Chinese apprehended in San Diego sector,” Melugin posted on X. “Those 3 days are already more than all of the Chinese encountered in the entirety of fiscal year 2021 across the southern border. (450).”

Earlier this month, Texas Scorecard reported on data from Customs and Border Protection sources who said 19,833 Chinese citizens had entered the U.S. through the southern border since October 1.

That is equivalent to around 150 Chinese nationals illegally entering every day. In fiscal year 2023 alone, just 37,000 Chinese nationals in total were encountered at the border.

“The overwhelming majority crossing illegally into the San Diego sector,” News Nation correspondent Ali Bradley posted on X.

CBS News recently noted that Chinese nationals were the fastest-growing group of illegal aliens entering the U.S. every month.

In addition, information from the U.S. Department of Justice shows that 55 percent of Chinese nationals were granted asylum, compared with 14 percent of illegal border crossers from other countries.

Some are also sounding the alarm on the link between the immigration wave and foreign influence operations by the Chinese Communist Party and People’s Liberation Army.

In 2022, Texas Scorecard delved deeply into the extent of CCP operations within the state of Texas, noting the party’s involvement in leveraging local politicians, buying up farmland, and funding nonprofits.

One list provided by Transparency USA showed at least 15 cases of China-linked donations of over $100 making their way into Texas politics, notably through the Huntsman LLC PAC and Vinson & Elkins Texas PAC.

“Chinese influence operations against the United States target not only the federal government, but also political and social organizations at the state and local levels,” Michael Cunningham, a visiting fellow in The Heritage Foundation’s Asian Studies Center, wrote in July 2022.

“States are unprepared for the magnitude and persistence of China’s influence operations, which far surpass those of previous geopolitical rivals, such as Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union,” he added.
