Any lingering doubt about how out of touch the mainstream media is with Texas Republicans can be seen in recent presidential endorsements where two of the state’s biggest newspapers picked candidates 80 percent or more of GOP voters say they would “never consider.”

The Dallas Morning News has endorsed John Kasich in the GOP primary, while the Houston Chronicle came out in support of Jeb Bush. While both men would be an improvement over Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama, neither has any real support in the Lone Star State.

A recent poll by CBS News found that Bush has the support of just 4.4 percent of Texas’ primary voters. The same poll found 72% and 80% of Texas GOP voters would “never consider” supporting Jeb Bush and John Kasich, respectively.

When these newspaper are so far out of touch on presidential politics, voters should be highly suspicious of Republicans endorsed by the Chronicle or Morning News in any  downballot race. The presidential picks demonstrate a hostility not only towards U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, but against conservatives in general.

For example, the Morning News has come out against incumbent conservative reformers like Jonathan Stickland and Matt Rinaldi (instead choosing the ObamaCare-pushing Scott Fisher and the pro-choice Bennett Ratliff). The same paper has promoted incumbent liberal Republicans like Jason Villalba and Cindy Burkett over their conservative challengers.

It shouldn’t escape notice that in 2014, both the DMN and Chronicle endorsed against conservatives Dan Patrick and Ken Paxton, picking instead their establishment opponents. Patrick and Paxton won as decisively then as Bush and Kaisch will lose on March 1.
