Republican State Rep. Steve Toth of The Woodlands has defeated U.S. Rep. Dan Crenshaw in the Republican primary for Texas’ 2nd Congressional District.
As of publication, with 63 percent of the vote in, Toth leads 57.6 percent to Crenshaw’s 39.2 percent.
Crenshaw entered congress to high acclaim in 2019.
Once in office, however, Crenshaw clashed with grassroots activists on a number of issues, including climate change, gun control, and the war in Ukraine. Crenshaw also attacked conservative members of congress as “grifters.”
Meanwhile, Toth earned consistent conservative marks as a member of the Texas House. Toth was endorsed in this race by U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz.
“I am overwhelmed by the level of support we received across the district, and I could not be more honored by the opportunity to represent our community in Congress,” said Toth. “This campaign has been a referendum on representatives who campaign one way and govern another – and the people have spoken. Congressional District 2 voters want a representative in D.C. who will stand firm in his convictions, fight for his constituents, and follow through on his promises. I won’t let them down.”
Toth will face Democrat Shaun Finnie in the November General Election.
Congressional District 2 covers a series of suburban communities northeast of Houston, including The Woodlands and Spring.
