Texas leaders are celebrating President-elect Donald Trump’s decision to appoint Tom Homan as the new “border czar” in his incoming administration.
Trump announced in a social media post on Truth Social Sunday night that Homan will be in charge of all deportations of illegal aliens back to their countries of origin.
During Trump’s first administration, Homan spearheaded the government’s deportation program. Though never confirmed by the Senate, he served as the acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement from 2017 to 2018.
“This is excellent, there’s no one tougher on the border,” Gov. Greg Abbott posted on X. “He knows what to do, how to do it with speed, and will work collaboratively with Texas.”
Abbott added that the days of open borders are coming to an end.
Attorney General Ken Paxton also publicly congratulated Homan on X, calling him a “wonderful choice” for the position.
U.S. Rep. Chip Roy (R–21) described Trump’s decision to appoint Homan as his “border czar” as one step closer to returning security and sanity at the border and in Texas communities.
Elon Musk, owner of social media platform X, Tesla, and SpaceX, extended his congratulations to Homan as the best possible candidate to enforce border security measures.
“I got a message to the millions of illegal aliens that Joe Biden has released into our country,” said Homan. “You better start packing now.”
He will be tasked with leading the project that Trump has called the largest deportation operation in United States history.
