On Tuesday, Defend Texas Liberty—a conservative political action committee—released a poll showing Texas Republicans strongly object to President Joe Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan.

The poll included results from more than 1,000 voters who participated in the Republican primary elections earlier this year, showing Republican voters are displeased with the Biden administration.

Last month, the Biden administration announced a three-part plan to forgive up to $20,000 per person in student loan debt. Among Republican voters, 89 percent of respondents had an unfavorable opinion about the plan.

Participants were also polled on the term “MAGA,” with 68 percent of voters favoring the phrase and 10 percent saying is somewhat favorable. If Donald Trump were to run in 2024, he continues to lead the field with the support of 49 percent of Republican primary voters.

Should Trump decide not to run, 58 percent said they would support Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, with U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz garnering 10 percent support.

Respondents were also asked to weigh in on a variety of current political issues.

Among GOP voters, 84 percent said we should resume life and go back to normal following the COVID pandemic that began two and a half years ago. Regarding public education issues, 88 percent of voters said public universities, like Texas A&M and the University of Texas, should not receive funding to teach topics like critical race theory, LGBT theory, and Marxism.

Additionally, 73 percent say they oppose additional federal aid to Ukraine.

Former State Rep. Jonathan Stickland, the leader of Defend Texas Liberty, says he’s encouraged by Texan voters rallying behind the “MAGA” agenda and Republicans to make their voices heard this election cycle.

“The gap between Texas’ values and the ‘woke’ agenda of the Biden administration has never been wider than today. I’m encouraged to see Texans rallying behind the banner of ‘Making America Great Again’ and rejecting the ‘woke’ policies like student loan forgiveness or endless spending on Ukraine,” said Stickland.

“If Texans truly want to Make America Great Again, they need to get out and vote for Republicans in November. Republicans must be unified to send a message to D.C. and reject the Marxist, woke policy of the Biden administration.”
