U.S. Rep. Michael Cloud of Texas and U.S. Sen. Eric Schmitt of Missouri have introduced the Dismantle DEI Act to codify President Trump’s agenda into law, ending so-called diversity, equity, and inclusion programs across the federal government.

“President Trump ended DEI mandates on DAY ONE. Now, we’re making sure they NEVER come back,” said Cloud (R-Victoria) on Tuesday.

Cloud explained on X, “The Dismantle DEI Act codifies Trump’s America-First agenda into law—banning these un-American trainings, shutting down DEI offices, and restoring a merit-based hiring system, so that only the best get hired, promoted, and awarded federal contracts on the taxpayer’s dime.”

The bill follows President Trump’s recent executive actions to end DEI, protect civil rights, and restore the “values of individual dignity, hard work, and excellence.”

The law would also prevent future administrations from reviving DEI policies. Cloud told the Daily Wire, “It’s now Congress’s job to follow through and codify the permanent elimination of DEI from our government.”

The legislation would save taxpayers billions on DEI spending. Previously, the Biden administration pushed DEI initiatives throughout the federal government, including mandatory DEI training for nuclear engineers, military commanders, IRS staff, and the State Department. Funding for health and science, notably through the National Institutes of Health, focused on programs prioritizing DEI.

The Trump administration has also begun dismantling DEI policies in education. In another recent executive action, President Trump took steps to end the indoctrination of students in K-12 schools, uphold parental rights, and protect women and girls from discrimination under Title IX.

According to the America First Policy Institute, Riley Gaines, vice chair of the America First Athletes Coalition, referred to President Trump’s executive action as an “important, substantial and long-overdue correction of ideology-driven regulatory overreach.”

“The Biden administration’s revisions inverted the plain meaning of Title IX, depriving American women and girls of important civil rights protections,” Gaines added.
