A video has resurfaced showing Dallas Democrat U.S. Rep. Colin Allred calling the border wall “racist” and vowing to “tear it down.”
Allred, who was campaigning for Congressional District 32 at the time, said during a 2018 Big East Forum event that if the U.S. builds a border wall, his generation will be the one that tears it down.
I wanna briefly talk about this racist wall. The symbol of this country cannot be a fence with barbed wire on top of it. It has to remain the Statue of Liberty. I’ll tell you what. If they build that wall, my generation will be the one that tears it down. We will not have this in this country. We will not have this wall in our country. We are not going to waste billions of dollars on a racist campaign promise and we are not going to turn the symbol of this country into a wall with barbed wire on top of it.
Allred doubled down on his previous statement at a Young Progressive Christians of Dallas event in 2018, calling Trump’s plan to build a border wall “racist” and again asserting that his generation will tear it down.
Allred has announced that he will resign from his U.S. House seat on May 3 if he wins the Democrat primary for Texas’ U.S. Senate seat currently held by Republican Sen. Ted Cruz .
Throughout his time in Congress, Allred has expressed multiple left-wing policy views on immigration and border security, including supporting a pathway to citizenship for illegal aliens. He has also supported the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program for children brought here illegally by their parents.
The Texas Standard has reported that Allred said a wall along the southern border would be a “waste of money.”
Meanwhile, last month Allred voted to prevent any federal funds from reimbursing the state’s Operation Lone Star border initiative.
“Although Colin Allred is described by the establishment media as a moderate, it’s clear that he is in lock-step with his Open Borders colleagues in seeking to undermine every piece of border security,” Chris Russo, President of Texans for Strong Borders, told Texas Scorecard. “Allred would open the floodgates at our borders to the detriment of American citizens with the pretext of compassion. Texans know better: they know that border security is essential to our sovereignty and preserving our way of life.”
A spokesman from Cruz’s campaign also told Texas Scorecard that Allred’s actions speak for themselves and show his priority is not protecting Texans from the invasion at the southern border.
“Colin Allred has actively advocated for tearing down the border wall and recently voted to block federal funds from supporting Operation Lone Star. He continues to show Texas voters that his priority is not to protect them from the ongoing crisis, but to continue worsening it at their expense,” said a campaign spokesman.
So far, U.S. Customs and Border Protection have already encountered 2.2 million illegal aliens at the southwest border. There are also reports that there were over 260,000 encounters at the border in September alone.
Texas Scorecard reached out to Allred but did not receive a comment before publication.
