Texas troopers have arrested a 17-year-old illegal alien for human smuggling in Webb County.
On October 23, 17-year-old Jesus Gonzalez, an illegal alien from Mexico, evaded authorities and led Texas Department of Public Safety troopers on a high-speed pursuit.
During the pursuit, Gonzalez evaded capture along train tracks in Webb County in south Texas and continued off-road before eventually bailing out of his car and heading toward the brush. A Texas trooper followed Gonzalez on foot, and eventually, he surrendered to troopers.
Along the train tracks, Gonzalez allowed five Mexican illegal aliens he was transporting to escape. Troopers referred the five to the U.S. Border Patrol.
Gonzalez was booked into Webb County Jail on October 24 and charged with one count of evading arrest, one count of evading arrest with a vehicle, and five counts of human smuggling. He was released the following day.
“Great work by our @TxDPSSouth Troopers in chasing down the suspect and arresting him without further incident,” wrote Texas Department of Public Safety spokesperson Lt. Chris Olivarez on X.
Kinney County Attorney Brent Smith told Texas Scorecard that the reckless behavior exhibited should not be tolerated.
“The reckless disregard for the safety of others should not be tolerated from any person, especially from someone who is in our country illegally,” said Smith. “It’s obvious that this person has no respect for our laws or the well-being of others. Some Texas justice would do this person a lot of good.”
