Former Amarillo Independent School District board vice president Cristy Wilkinson’s successor has been selected.

In December, Amarillo ISD trustees voted unanimously to appoint Amarillo Southwest Church of Christ pastor Doyle Corder to be the newest trustee on the board, replacing Wilkinson following her surprise resignation in late 2019. Wilkinson’s resignation triggered the fourth vacancy on the school board in a little over a year, as trustees have now replaced every board member elected in 2017 due to resignations.

Corder was selected from a field of 10 applicants, which included former Amarillo City Councilman Mark Nair and several repeat applicants from previous cycles. This was Corder’s first attempt at seeking appointment or election to the board.

The new trustee will hold his seat through 2021 and may choose to run for a full term at that time.
