A teacher at a private Christian school in Amarillo will serve just 30 days in jail after he admitted to sexual contact with an underage student.
Kegan Matthew Abram, 29, worked as a teacher and academic monitor at Accelerate Christian School, which is run by Accelerate Church.
Abram is the brother-in-law of Accelerate pastor Jeremy Pfeil and also worked with the church’s youth ministry.
The teacher was arrested in October 2024 and charged with two counts of indecency with a child by sexual contact and one count of improper relationship between educator and student. Both offenses are second-degree felonies, punishable by 2 to 20 years in prison.
According to the criminal complaint, Abram twice forced a female student under the age of 17 years old to touch his genitals.
The crimes occurred in October and November of 2023.
In January 2025, Abrams pleaded guilty to all charges.
As part of his plea bargain, the original felony charges of indecency with a child by sexual contact were reduced to indecent assault, a misdemeanor.
Abram received two years of deferred adjudication for the indecent assault misdemeanor and ten years of deferred adjudication for the improper relationship felony. If he completes his probation, the charges will be dismissed and he will not have a criminal record.
As conditions of probation, Abram must serve 30 days in jail and pay a $3,000 fine.
The plea bargain also prohibits Abram from teaching or having contact with anyone under the age of 17.
State records show Abram does not hold a Texas teaching certificate.
He is not currently listed on the Do Not Hire Registry of people ineligible to work in Texas public schools.
Texas Scorecard has reported on hundreds of Texas teachers accused of sex crimes against students and other children.
