Bastrop County Republicans have approved a resolution voicing disapproval of State Rep. Stan Gerdes of Smithville for his performance in the Texas House.

On Tuesday, the BCRP members released a resolution stating that many voters in the county are disappointed with Gerdes “for not following the rules of the Texas House Republican Caucus.”

Republican voters in the county said they disapproved of the following actions:

  • Supporting Dade Phelan as House Speaker, siding with democrats
  • Voting to impeach Attorney General Ken Paxton
  • Being uninvolved and unresponsive to constituents
  • Lack of transparency, calling those that oppose his politics the “rage mob”
  • Tardy and dishonest responses
  • Walking out of the recent caucus vote and supporting the democrat’s choice, Burrows

“The Bastrop County Republican Party Executive Committee condemns any effort by Representative Stan Gerdes to ally with Democrats to elect a Speaker who was not supported by the majority vote of the Texas House Republican Caucus,” the resolution reads.

BCRP’s executive committee is calling on Gerdes to vote for the Texas House Republican Caucus’ nominee, David Cook (R-Mansfield), and notes that if he chooses to vote against Cook, it will be considered a censurable act.

“THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that for the House Speaker vote scheduled for January 14, 2025, the Bastrop County Republican Party provides notice to State Representative Stan Gerdes, that a vote against the Texas House Republican Caucus nominee, Representative David Cook, in the floor vote for House Speaker shall constitute a censurable act, given he pledged to comply with all the Legislative Priorities including ‘No Democrat Chairs.’ A vote against the Texas House Republican Caucus nominee shall be considered a censurable act.”

The committee also stated that if Cook chooses to withdraw from the speaker’s race, if Gerdes votes for a candidate who has not publicly pledged to comply with the Republican Party of Texas’ Legislative priority of “No Democrat Chairs,” that will also constitute a censurable act.

“BCRP does not take this situation lightly and stands ready to begin the process of censure if applicable. The Republican voters in Bastrop County are our friends, neighbors, and family members and are entitled to excellent representation in the Texas Legislature,” BCRP said in a press release.

Gerdes did not respond to a request for comment on the resolution.
