A North Texas teacher who admitted to soliciting a student for sex was sentenced to seven years in prison followed by deportation.
Jherson Manuel-Ramos, 27, pleaded guilty to online solicitation of a minor, child grooming, and forgery of a government document, according to Fannin County Criminal District Attorney John Skotnik.
Manuel-Ramos was working at Evans Intermediate School in the Bonham Independent School District when he was arrested in February 2024, after a high school student reported his grooming behavior.
Bonham ISD Police investigators found the teacher had sent inappropriate social media messages attempting to get the student to engage in illicit sexual activity.
After a grand jury indicted Manuel-Ramos in March 2025 for online solicitation and grooming, authorities dispatched to arrest him discovered the teacher had forged a new ID and Social Security card to get a new job and had also attempted to apply for work with another school district.
On April 15, 2026, Manuel-Ramos pleaded guilty to one count each of child grooming and online solicitation of a minor, and two counts each of forgery of a government document and tampering with a government record.
Judge Christina Tillett of the 336th District Court sentenced Manuel-Ramos to seven years in state prison.
Skotnik said when Manuel-Ramos is released from prison, he will be added to the sex offender registry for life and will be deported from the United States with a lifetime ban.
“Criminals who would try to use our school system as a means to get access to children and further abuse or hurt them will be prosecuted severely,” said Assistant Criminal District Attorney Vanessa Vice following the sentencing. “The bravery of the student to come forward and expose this teacher and be willing to pursue the case is outstanding.”
Bonham ISD Police Chief Hunter Templeton said his department is pleased with the outcome of the case and the sentence imposed. “Protecting our students will always remain our highest priority, and we will stop at nothing to ensure their safety and well-being.”
Manuel-Ramos was certified as a Texas educational aide in 2021. His certificate expired in March 2023.
He was added to the state’s Do Not Hire Registry on April 13, 2026.
Over the past few years, a growing number of Texas school employees have been accused of sex crimes against students and other children, and thousands have been reported to the Texas Education Agency for sexual misconduct.
