A female former teacher at Boyd Independent School District is accused of having a sexual relationship with a student.

Stephanie Lynn McGilvray, 31, was arrested Thursday and charged with improper relationship between educator and student, a second-degree felony punishable by 2 to 20 years in prison.

The offense includes engaging in sexual contact or sexually explicit communications with a student.

District officials learned of the allegations last September, after which McGilvray resigned.

Boyd ISD Superintendent Tom Woody confirmed to Texas Scorecard that McGilvray was employed as a high school agriculture teacher from July 1, 2023, through September 27, 2024.

Boyd High School Principal Jennifer Railsback stated that the district had been notified of McGilvray’s arrest.

When the district was originally notified of a potential relationship on September 26, 2024, we conducted an initial investigation and referred the issue to the Boyd Police Department and filed the potential misconduct with the Texas Education Agency.

Ms. McGilvray was placed on administrative leave that day and resigned from her position with Boyd ISD on September 27th. The district has not had contact with her since her resignation. Prior to this incident there had not been anything that showed up as a red flag in her behavior and she had passed all background checks.

“The safety and well-being of our students remains our top priority,” added Railsback.

McGilvray was booked into the Parker County Jail on March 20.

State records show McGilvray was issued a teaching certificate in 2020. Her certification is currently under review by the Texas Education Agency.

Online records indicate McGilvray previously worked at Leander ISD from 2020 to 2023.

In just the past few years, hundreds of Texas teachers have been accused of sex crimes involving students and other children—including an increasing number of female teachers.

In 2023, another Boyd ISD teacher, Kelcei Michelle Ferguson, was arrested for sending nude pictures to a 15-year-old male student via Snapchat.
