Another candidate has jumped into the race to replace outgoing U.S. Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-Clarendon).
On Wednesday, Chris Ekstrom officially filed and declared his candidacy for the District 13 U.S. House seat. Ekstrom is a Dallas businessman best known for his work defending historical monuments in Texas.
In his campaign announcement, Ekstrom declared himself a “Christian Trump Republican” and said he plans to defend farmers, ranchers, and the oil and gas industry if elected.
“Now more than ever, President Trump needs allies in Congress who will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with him against the liberals who seek to weaken our military, our economy, and … our way of life,” Ekstrom said. “If we want an America that has secure borders, safe families, and a stronger economic future, now is the time to stand up and fight; and I look forward to fighting every day to represent the values of the people of Congressional District 13.”
Ekstrom joins Amarillo City Councilwoman Elaine Hays, BNSF railroad conductor Vance Snider, Monique Worthy, Texas Cattle Feeders Association industry affairs director Josh Winegarner, and nonprofit worker Kevin McInturff in seeking the Republican nomination for the seat. Democrat Greg Sagan is unopposed in his primary.
Candidates have until December 9 to declare their candidacies for the seat.
