A teacher is coming under fire for attempting to indoctrinate seventh grade students in her class with her leftist personal political agenda, putting the teacher at odds with state law prohibiting such conduct. Now one state lawmaker is calling for the termination of the teacher.

A Goose Creek ISD seventh grade teacher, whose identity has been withheld for privacy reasons, gave students an assignment over an essay titled “Trump Against American Values” in order to teach them about “inference.” The assignment, essay, and questions that followed have led some of the students’ parents to be concerned about whether their children are being taught or indoctrinated.

The questions over the essay included one multiple-choice question with the following options for answers:

• The United States will impeach Donald Trump.

• Other Americans are also offended by Donald Trump.

• Mexican Americans are the major group upset with Donald Trump.

• Future generations will have to deal with racism.

“This was an assignment my seventh-grade daughter received that I found to be very out of place, to say the least,” said Chris Felder, one parent whose child was given the assignment.

“It feels as though my expectations of our educators are too high. This type of nonfactual rhetoric has no place in our schools, regardless of who the president is,” Feldman continued.

In a press release, Rep. Briscoe Cain (R–Deer Park) stated he believed the assignment very obviously violated state law:

“In Texas Government Code, section 247.2. Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators, it states: ‘The educator shall not use institutional or professional privileges for personal or partisan advantage.’ This educator clearly pushed a partisan agenda in a class activity.”

Cain says, as a result, the teacher should be relieved of his or her duties.

“This individual has violated the sacred trust that every parent has with the State of Texas when they send their child into a public school,” Cain said. “They have lost the privilege of being in a classroom with Texas children and forfeit the title of teacher.”

Goose Creek ISD, located in Baytown, did not immediately return requests for comments from Texas Scorecard regarding the story.

“My children have experienced great teachers in the classroom but have also had to put up with those who see their role as indoctrinators, not educators. As a fellow graduate of Goose Creek ISD, I’m embarrassed that this is what our District tolerates,” Felder concluded.

“No teacher should attempt to indoctrinate a child to their ideology, no matter who is in the White House,” said Cain.
