UPDATED October 9.
A Celina ISD coach arrested last week for secretly recording middle school students now faces a new charge of possessing child sexual abuse material, commonly referred to as child pornography.
William Caleb Elliott, 26, was arrested and charged with invasive visual recording, a state jail felony, on October 3.
Elliott is a 6th-grade teacher and 8th-grade coach at Moore Middle School in Celina Independent School District.
He was booked into the Collin County Jail on October 4 and later released on a $100,000 bond.
Elliott was jailed again on October 9 on a second-degree felony charge of possession or promotion of child pornography.
Jail records indicate that Elliott possessed between 10 and 50 images of children engaging in sexual conduct. Bond for the new charge was also set at $100,000.
The Celina Police Department announced Thursday that Elliott turned himself in to authorities.
Police stated that after further investigation, the department’s Criminal Investigation Division obtained an additional arrest warrant for the new offense.
According to Texas law, a person knowingly or intentionally possessing, or knowingly or intentionally accessing with intent to view, visual material that visually depicts the lewd exhibition of the private area of a child younger than 18 years of age may be charged with a Felony of the Second Degree.
Celina PD stated that, based on evidence collected so far, parents of any affected children will be contacted by the Criminal Investigation Division by the end of the day October 9.
A parent told Texas Scorecard that as of 9:00 p.m. Friday, more than 30 parents had been notified that their children were victims of Elliott’s alleged criminal activities.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding the case is encouraged to contact the Celina Police Department at (972) 382-2121.
Caleb Elliott is the son of Celina ISD’s longtime Head Football Coach and Athletic Director Bill Elliott.
He graduated from Celina High School in 2018. During 2021 and 2022, Elliott worked for Celina ISD as a substitute teacher and maintenance worker. He was hired to teach at Moore Middle School in 2023.
Parents told Texas Scorecard that Elliott was instructed to stay out of the locker room when students were present after he came out as gay last year, but boys told their parents that this school year Elliott was often in the locker room.
Elliott’s “significant other,” a 2024 Celina High School graduate hired this year as a special education aide at Moore, has disappeared from the staff roster and appears to no longer be employed at the school.
State records show Elliott holds a Texas teaching certificate, which is under review by the Texas Education Agency.
In just the past few years, hundreds of Texas educators have been accused of sex crimes involving students and other children, and thousands of educator sexual misconduct complaints have been reported to the TEA.
